On September 25, 2025, the Faculty of Theology at Duta Wacana Christian University held a Retirement Seminar to honor the long and meaningful journey of Prof. Dr. J.B. Giyana Banawiratma, affectionately known as Pak Bana<\/em>. The event was not merely a farewell, but also an intellectual and spiritual celebration of his works and thoughts that have profoundly shaped the landscape of theology in Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the seminar, a scholarly discussion was conducted on “Spiritualitas Trinitaris Kosmis” (English: Cosmic Trinitarian Spirituality), the latest theological contribution of Pak Bana<\/em>. The book calls readers to comprehend spirituality in the light of Trinitarian relations that transcend individual boundaries and are deeply embedded in the cosmos \u2014 an invitation to view the wholeness of creation as a manifestation of God\u2019s love that continuously unfolds throughout history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The seminar featured three speakers from diverse backgrounds and perspectives: Rev. Dr. Joas Adiprasetya (lecturer at the Jakarta School of Theological Philosophy, specializing in Constructive Theology and Theology of Religions); Rev. A. Bagus Laksana, SJ., Ph.D. (Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Theology at Sanata Dharma University, whose expertise includes Christology, Theology of Religions, Pancasila, and intercultural as well as interreligious studies in Indonesia); and Rev. Dr. Wahyu Nugroho, M.A. (lecturer at Duta Wacana Christian University, teaching Religious Studies and Islamic Studies).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each of the three speakers offered reflections shaped by their distinct backgrounds and perspectives, thereby enriching the theological dialogue with insights on spirituality and faith praxis in the midst of changing times. This diversity of perspectives vividly reflected the inclusive and open academic spirit \u2014 a hallmark of Pak Bana\u2019s<\/em> teaching and life witness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than just a seminar, this event signified the emergence of a new tradition within the Faculty of Theology at Duta Wacana Christian University: retirement seminar as an expression of respect and celebration for a lecturer whose dedication has left a lasting impact. This tradition becomes a communal space to remember, celebrate, and continue a living intellectual and spiritual legacy grounded in dialogue, service, and love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through this event, the faculty not only conveyed its deep gratitude for Pak Bana\u2019s<\/em> devoted service, but also affirmed that his theological insights and life example will continue to inspire the development of contextual theology in Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
